Frequently asked questions

We have listed the most frequently asked questions about the Amsterdam Book Event for you. Is your question not listed? Then be sure to contact with us and we will be happy to answer you! We will also add more frequently asked questions to our FAQ. Retrieved from the website of Pllek itself, you can also ask specific questions about the restaurant.

  • ABE
    • Can I/my colleague come?

The Amsterdam Book Event works with a closed guest list. All invitees receive an invitation by e-mail.

This invitation also applies to your colleagues: if they are not on the guest list, unfortunately we have not reserved a place for them. Bringing a guest with you is therefore not possible due to the exclusive nature of the ABE.

If you have any questions about the guest list, please contact marketing@vanditmar.nl or your local Van Ditmar representative.

    • I unexpectedly cannot come after all, what now?

What a shame! Please send an email to marketing@vanditmar.nl if you unfortunately cannot attend the ABE after all.

    • Can I take photos/videos during the ABE?

You certainly can! We do ask you to take into account the privacy of the other guests and the wishes of our presenters (e.g. pay attention to an embargo). Share your photos on social media with the hashtags #AmsterdamBookEvent and #ABE2024. On Instagram, you can tag us (@vanditmarbooks), we like that!

    • What's in the goodie bag?

A well-stocked goodie bag is waiting for every guest upon entry. The contents? We'll keep that a secret until 18 September!

    • What will this day cost me?

Apart from any travel or parking costs nothing; the ABE is fully catered for our guests. That includes a hot drink and a piece of fruit on entry, a coffee break with sweets, a full lunch and drinks afterwards. Coming by public transport? The ferry from Amsterdam CS is free of charge.

    • Can I come later/leave earlier?

We expect you in the morning between 9.00 and 9.30 for a cup of coffee or tea. Our programme will start at 9.30 a.m. sharp, and we will not wait for latecomers. The door does remain open in case you are late due to force majeure (a severely delayed train; an unexpected traffic jam). But: we assume you will be in on time. The presentations and official programme will last until 15:50. After that, our drinks reception will start, lasting until 17:00. Between 15:50 and 17:00 you can leave whenever you want.

  • Agenda
    • What is the progamme of the day?

The official programme is only available to our invited guests. Once the programme is final, they will receive a link to a special password-protected page via e-mail.

  • Food & drink
    • Do you take into account my dietary requirements?

Fish and veg sandwiches are served during lunch, along with vegetarian soup. No dish with meat will be served during lunch. Do you have an allergy or other dietary requirement that we really need to know about? Then please send an email to marketing@vanditmar.nl so we can pass it on to Pllek.

On the Pllek website you can read more about the food they serve.

    • Should I bring my own food?

No hear! On entering at 9 o'clock, you get a cup of coffee or tea with a piece of fresh fruit or croissant. Then we will have a coffee break around 11 o'clock including cake of the day. Lunch will be completely provided and snacks will be available during the drinks break. You do have to provide your own breakfast and dinner.

    • Can I have dinner at Pllek afterwards?

At 17.00, we wrap up the ABE programme. If you want to stay for dinner afterwards (with your own company) at Pllek, we advise you to book a table in advance. This can be done via the Pllek website. Keep in mind that Pllek does not accept cash, so bring your debit/credit card.

  • Pllek
    • Is the venue (wheelchair) accessible?

The ABE room, restaurant and toilets are accessible to wheelchair users. The beach and the top floor (without lift) of Pllek are less accessible. Pllek therefore does not call itself wheelchair-friendly but wheelchair-accessible.

    • Is there a cloakroom?

Pllek has an (unguarded) coat rack where you can put your coat. Of course, you are also free to take your coat and bag into the venue. There are also paid lockers at Pllek. You can rent them for €2. Bring a coin for this, but bear in mind that you will lose it when you open the locker again. These lockers are too small to hold a laptop.
